Sanctuary Cove is a secure and gated community in the suburb of Hope Island on the Gold Coast area of Queensland, Australia.
It was the first of such developments in Australia and is notable for its impact in planning legislation in Queensland which had to be altered to allow it to proceed, due to the privatisation of such large areas of urban land.
It covers an area of 474 hectares south of the Coomera River close to its mouth. To the east of Sanctuary Cove is Coomera Island.
Sanctuary Cove provides a completely self-contained residential environment with its own shopping centre and entertainment facilities, with the addition of many of the facilities of a holiday resort, such as boating marinas and golf courses.
Sanctuary Cove is a world class golf and marine focussed community. The Sanctuary Cove Country Gold & Club is prestigious and golf club is one of the world’s best private courses and there is also a public course which is also excellent. What is unique about Sanctuary cove is that most resident move around within Sanctuary Cove in their golf buggies instead of regular vehicles reducing pollution but making it a unique place.
The Sanctuary Cove Village offers a unique and enjoyable place to walk around and get a feel of what Sanctuary Cove has to offer. Great restaurants, coffee shops, and an assortment of interesting shops.
It is home to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show which has been held annually since 1988.
Intercontinental operates the luxury hotel at Sanctuary Cove. The resort was previously called the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove. It contains 247 rooms.
The Marina contains 300 moorings for all vessels including superyachts up to 36 metres in length.
